Lost scenes

Sophie's revenge!

A few scenes that did not make the final edit that involve Larry and Sophie as they reunite on his return from India. They revisit some of the playfulness from the Lake Forest party and show two rekindling their love for each other.

The first is a short conversation between Larry and Sophie, shortly after he takes her home and pulls her under the shower, fully clothed! It's here mainly beause it's one of only a few where I have a photo of it (above). The second shows Sophie getting here revenge for Larry's attempt to freshen her up.

135A THE GARRET - LATER

Dry and in one of Larry's old Indian robes, Sophie sits comfortably in Larry's bed, looking out at the lights of Paris. Scrubbed clean, she is soft and fragile looking, like a young girl. Larry brings her a hot water bottle . Sophie laughs.

SOPHIE

You dope. Where did you get that?

LARRY

The old lady down the hall. Almost broke my fingers.

SOPHIE

How?

LARRY

She rolled over in her sleep when I was sliding it out of the bed.

SOPHIE (laughs)

You jerk.

He tucks the bottle under the quilt with her. She looks beautiful.She studies his face.

SOPHIE

Have you been happy?

LARRY

Yes.

SOPHIE

But there's something wrong , isn't there?

LARRY

No.

SOPHIE

You never could lie to me.

He looks at her sheepishly. She touches his face with affection . It is very close to hers. Suddenly the truth dawns in her eyes: she has been in love with him for her whole life. He sees it in her face. Slowly they come together in a kiss. It deepens. Her robe opens and they fall together on the bed.

(The next scene would have come after the scenes of Larry and Sophie painting his apartment.)

138 EVENING

Larry has finished his part of the painting. Sophie is finishing hers, totally absorbed now by the work. perfecting the last few strokes. She finishes and looks at Larry, her face smudged with paint. Larry opens the windows and the place floods with light, revealing the whole of Montmartre stretching beneath the sunset. Sophie smiles for the first time. She goes into the bathroom. Larry begins cleaning up the brushes . Suddenly, Sophie's VOICE cries out in alarm.

SOPHIE (OS)

OH MY GOD LARRY -- HELP!

Larry drops the brushes and runs to the bathroom.

138A TILE BATHROOM

Larry runs in. Sophie, perched on the sink with a look of vengence,pounces on him and wrestles him into the freezing cold running shower. Larry roars with shock as Sophie laughs. He drags her in with him.
